To start our posts off let me say that my fiancee is incredible. She originally wasn't going to come at all. She did and got some good pictures. She didn't get everyone but I'll bet you will see yourself somewhere. To show your appreciation it would be great if you would drop a thank you to her at brie.pringle@gmail.com. I don't know some of your names so please e-mail me at awneos@yahoo.com and I'll make corrections. Enjoy!

This first set is of the Bicycle Pedaler's head mechanic #3.

2011 Wrap

The 2011 M4 is in the books.

About 15 riders showed up at 7am to start the first laps in the dark. By 7:30 dawn had broken the horizon and lights were no longer needed.  5 of us were solo riders and the rest were the first riders for their teams. Two tents were set up and the boys from Coleman teased all of us by cooking hash browns and eggs on a camp stove.  Ruth from the Bicycle Pedaler made a surprise visit and left us some chairs, water jugs and energy bars and homemade treats.

The wind started out of the south but rotated to the north as the day progressed.  It was sunny and pleasant, especially compared to last year’s 30 mph sustained winds and 40 degree weather.  Most of us were in short sleeves by 9am.

Aaron North's fiancĂ© took over 250 photos and I hope to have some posted here soon.  At one time there were 40 plus cars in the parking lot as riders not associated with the M4 shared the trail with us.  In fact, I saw some cars with bikes on the back slow at the approach to Miller's and drive on past shaking their heads.  Two idiots rode without helmets and got an earful from Tim Miller as we passed them.  After one lap they left.

Casualties:  Brent Dodds wrecked on lap 2 and cracked his helmet.  Luckily his head is so hard that the helmet was ornamental to begin with and no lasting damage was sustained to his melon.  Aaron Sevrin cracked his fork when passing in high grass and discovering large chucks of hidden concrete.  Several other riders encounter the various bleeding legs and other body parts that comes with kissing and hugging trees by accident.

After the ride, the parking lot was clean, with no trash and no sign that an event has been held.  Paula Stout wrote a nice article and mentioned the ride.  You can find it at:  http://www.examiner.com/mountain-biking-in-wichita/100-miles-of-dirt-on-the-ground-how-to-prepare-for-a-dirt-century

All in all I enjoyed the day, if you can call suffering for 10 hours enjoyable.

Mid Oct update

The trail was a mess on Monday.  It didn't absorb as much as the rain as I thought it would.  I anticipate the sunny weather this week drying up the trail, but I'll check it on Saturday just to make sure.   I'll post here and on Bike Kansas/KSS newsgroups should there be a need to reschedule.

Regardless, I did about 7 hours of trail work over two days to "speed" up the trail.  I removed a tree that should have been taken out when the new section was cut.  I also removed a stumpy and took some roots out and generally cleaned.

Oh, here are the T-shirt design:  They will run $13 for S/S, $16 for XXL and one of you ordered a long sleeve that will also be $16.  I hope to have them the day of the ride so I don't have to hunt everyone down.  Please bring cash as I would prefer not to have to go to the bank with a bunch of checks.  I ordered an extra L and two extra XLs

Oct Update

Two clarifications for this year's ride:

1. We will be riding the new section.  No cutting the trail by riding the west side exposed area.
2.  The blanket swag will work this way:  Drop a bike related swag item before your team starts riding.  Each rider for your team can drop an item.  (Participation is optional).  Once your entire team has ridden all 21 laps, then you may take one (if you left one).

Sept Update

Thanks to those of you who have signed up for the M4 ride on 16Oct11.

If you have a team, please get me everyone’s name and emails.  You can also give me a team name.  If you are having trouble finding a team, call a local shop.  The Bicycle Pedaler , Heartland, Exchange, Continental, and Lee’s all have informational flyers and may be able to hook you up with other riders.  Also I can post on the blog if your team needs some people.

Last year the shirts ran under $20 for both long sleeve and short sleeve.  The 2011 design in on the blog:  M4ride.blogspot.com.

Notifications will be made via M4ride.blogspot.com (you can subscribe to receive email updates) and via the yahoo newsgroups Kansas Singletrack and Bike Kansas.  These communication outlets is where I’ll post weather information if the ride is moved or T-shirt notifications or other important information (like if Kevin steals my floor pump again!)

You can contact me at bikeidiot@cox.net, aaron.santry@ang.af.mil or 316-350-5869.

Thanks and see you in a couple of weeks.

2011 Fall Ride

Well, as all of you can guess, I had to cancel the Spring ride dates.  Sunday, 16Oct11 is the next ride date.  It will be sandwiched between the TdD races on the 9th (Sooner Stampede) and 23rd (Keystone).

The ride will be 21 laps at Miller's Meadow

The rules will be the same for 2011:

1. The ride is 21 laps long, or 100 miles. This is not a race. No time or placing information will be kept.

2. Riders can ride solo or as part of a team. Teams can be one, two, three, four, or five riders.

3. For team riders, a member must be on the trail at all times. Riders can split the number of laps up amongst themselves as they see fit.

4. Each team or solo rider will need to keep track of their own laps.

5. Riders are asked to bring a piece of bike swag for a blanket swap. Each swag is thrown on a blanket and after the teams complete the ride, they can choose a piece from the blanket. Some riders may be under 21, so no beer related swag.

6. Trail opens at 7am and closes at 7pm. Lights will be needed for the last hour or so.

7. Riders are not required to stay at the trail when team mates are on the ride. You are welcome to make a trip to QT for drinks and food.

8. There is no cost for this ride. It is unsanctioned and unsponsered. It is a show and go. All riders accept responsibliity for themselves and their ride.

9. A T Shirt will be made available. Pricing and design are in the works.

10. Ride limited to 50 riders. Sign up via email at bikeidiot@cox.net. Put "M4 Ride" as your subject line. Please include your team name and team members with email address for all riders.

11.  The ride is unsupported.  I'll bring a floor pump but otherwise don't expect any mechanics or anything to be around.
